About Papiamento & Aruba
Yes. Papiamento is the official language of Aruba (together with Dutch) and has been recognized by the government since 2003. It is widely spoken in daily life.
Papiamento developed in the Caribbean from a blend of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, African, and Indigenous languages. It has been spoken for centuries and is central to Aruba’s identity.
While many locals do speak English and Dutch, Papiamento is the heart of Aruba’s culture. Speaking it shows respect, builds stronger relationships, and makes daily life on the island smoother.
